First, I would just like to give you a quick report about the herd. It is actually going great. All four horses are enjjoying eachoters company. Franz and Quatren has become realy good friends. Divno and Eddie are a bit unhappy with the new addition to the herd. They show sour faces and threatens, but Franz is a good boy and ignore them, just as he should.
Franz is very happy with being in a herd again. He thrives with his new life. Of course, that makes it harder for me to get to know him. He is more reserved and hard to come close now. If I wanted to train him quickly it would have been much smarter to put him alone in a small paddock and use his social needs to make him trust me. However, I have decided not to. First and foremost I will allow him to be a horse. I will spend as much time as I can just haning out with the herd, "grazing" with them, walking with them and just be together. Sadly I will need to catch him within two days for the farrier. His fronthooves really need a trim! We will se how that goes, after that I will just let him be a horse again, working on getting his trust in a non forceful way. In October/November when the horses will be installed in their winter quarters I will start to train him more "seriously" if he is ready for it.
I will not lie, it is hard to find patience. I am so much longing for the day when I can sit up there, on Franz' back with his beautiful black neck in front of me. But it is beter to hurry slowly than to put to much pressure on him. He is only three and has made a very long journey.
Q, Eddie and Divino are all three very eager to train and learn new things. They follow me around the field (especially Divino and Eddie, they are like dogs trained to go "heel"). At the moment it has not been so much training though. I stomped on shattered glass this weekend so I have been limbing aruound since then. Not fun to train youngsters with one bad foot.
I also had a very nice visitor this weekend. My old friend Helena and her afghan dog from Stockholm. We got to know eachother by our intrest for photography. Of course the camera was used. These are some ofmy favourites from the weekend:
Helena and Seger
The photographs are taken in my grandmother- and grandfather-in-laws' garden. It is amazingly beautiful. Like a natural studio with flowers and wonderful light. I love it!
