So, yesterday I wrote a post where I mentioned the horses winter quarters.
Today I will tell you more about how I want to build it. Of course it wll be an open stable, my horses prefer living outdoors, able to move around as they please. I also prefer them to live outside since it is more convenient for me. The open stable shelter will be placed in the forest next to our garden. It i a good spot to build it there, it will be protected from wind and bad weather from the forest around it. The paddock around it is mostly open, but we have saved some aspen trees for the horses to chew on, schratch on and to seek natural shelter under if they prefer that over the shelter.
From the small open area in the wood we will logg them a small road down to our garden, it is hard to explain, I will show you in pictures later on, and in our garden they will have another open area about 35x12m where they will be served water. I will feed hay them in the open area in the woods so they will have to walk between food and water.
I am not yet sure how I will feed them their hay yet. It is going to be some kind of slow feeder.
I want to fill their paddock with obstacles, fallen trees so they will need to lift their feet and naturaly use ther bodies, tarps on the ground so that they will need to walk over them, a "door" with plastic strips hanging down from it so that they will have to go through it everytime they want to drink and other things like that. Flags, plasticbags, scary noises...
I want to transform their everyday-paddock into a great place for enviromental training, where they train themselves every day.
That is my vision and I hope it will help me eaven more to get confident and unafraid horses.
That's it for now!
